Shamanism has existed as long as there have been people on the planet. It has been the leading healing practice for every culture on every continent for most of human history. It is anchored in, and draws its power from, the manifest forces of Nature and the unmanifested power of Spirit. A shaman is a chacruna, or bridge between these two poles of healing. Shamans believe that we live in an animistic universe where everything is alive and filled with consciousness. Each person has a luminous energy field composed of layers like a Russian nesting doll. From the outside in, we have an energetic, spiritual, mental, emotional, and finally a physical body. When trauma of any kind occurs, an imprint is made on the luminous energy field, affecting the outer layer, the energetic body first. If the imprint is not removed, it manifests as dis-ease in one layer after another until it reaches the physical, where it can no longer be ignored. One of a shaman’s main tasks is to remove these imprints before they wreak havoc. When removed, the body naturally resets itself to its original pristine state.
Shamans call this our Healed State. Over time, this natural awareness of wellbeing that we enjoyed as children is lost. Heavy energies from life experiences (trauma) obscure the vision of our Healed State. Shamans remove any heavy or foreign energies that block the memory of our Healed State. Shamans facilitate this process through our training, our benefactors, and our connections to the land and Spirit. Shamans open the door through indigenous processes, rituals, and ceremonies, allowing their clients to dance with these larger forces and return to their natural state of wholeness.
Shamans believe that there are two types of people in the world: those who dream their lives into being and those who are being dreamed. We have the power to co-create our reality through awareness, intent, and consistency. We can dream our world into being, but it begins with finding a vision that is worthy of claiming our lives. Our souls are incarnated for fulfillment, and our task is to remember what is written in our soul’s memory and allow it to claim our lives. Life challenges us to discover what makes our jaguar roar!
